Claims are usually made up of: - past and future medical expenses - Past and future loss of earnings - General damages (pain and suffering) - in cases of death of the breadwinner, .oss of support or income The future medicals are assessed on the basis of information given by experts. Loss of earnings are worked out by experts using past earnings records as a basis. Generals are based on past awards of the Courts in matters involving similar injuries. Assessment is done on a mathematical and structured basis, and not simply thumbsuck as some people think! Remember, this is SA law, not "LA Law".
