Obtaining my confidential documents

Am I entitled to get copies of my personal file and documents relating to me?

Answer
Yes. In terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, anyone who has documents where you have a material interest in (eg patient/employee file, hospital records, doctors clinical notes etc) is obliged to give you COPIES of those documents (not merely a transcription thereof!). If they refuse, an application to Court will ensure that these are obtained.
